“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.” –Steve Jobs, Co-Founder of Apple
Along with listening to my Udemy courses on marketing, Instagram and business I read articles on Forbes, Inc. and Entrepreneur. My takeaways are these:
- You MUST develop a business plan. This is your roadmap, your handbook, your guide for where you see your business and what exactly you want to do. There are some great questions in a business plan that force you to think past “I have a great idea for a business”. Get specific and plan specific goals. You can do this FOR FREE on SBA.gov.
- NO ONE gets rich quick. You better be in this for the long haul, just like a new diet/health/fitness regime. Building a brand, empire, business takes time. And failures. And frustrations. You can take a sneaky route and trick people into giving you money (more on this later) but that does not build a solid, longstanding business that you can be proud of. THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS. Period.
- If you want different results, change you actions. Or as Tony Robbins says ““If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
- Don’t let fear hold you back. “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” -Thomas Edison, Inventor
- There is no time like to present to start. Stop looking for reasons to wait. “Today” was at one point “tomorrow”.
There was a advertisement in the newspaper long ago that is applicable to social media today. It said “Make $1000 a week from home!“. You had to mail in $50 dollars for the kit which would tell you how to make this money. Do you know what the kit was? A piece of paper telling you to put an ad in the paper telling people that could make $1000 a week from home. Think about it….
Bottom line? Build your business based on old-fashioned values and hard work. You will go farther, be happier and do more good in this world. Think of businesses you like to frequent and mirror their values. Write a business plan, look at legitimate business sites for advice and ignore all those weirdos out there trying to sell you crap to get started.
